Classic Old-World Splendor on a Vineyard Estate
Tucked away in the heart of a rolling vineyard, this extensive remodeling project transformed an underutilized space into a commanding, old-world office and private study. Our clients sought a sanctuary that felt deeply rooted in European history—a space of intellectual retreat that would mirror the timeless, organic beauty of the surrounding estate. Through meticulous historic detailing, hand-crafted millwork, and artistic restoration, we created a rich, multi-layered environment that feels as though it has lived within the home for centuries.
Design Highlights
Master-Class Millwork & Architecture
To establish an immediate sense of gravity, we designed custom, floor-to-ceiling cabinetry and wainscoting in an ultra-dark, hand-rubbed charcoal and ebony finish. Intricate crown molding, fluted pilasters, and carved corbels frame the room, while glass-fronted cabinets display curated historic volumes and heirloom collectibles. Hand-scraped marble flooring and aged trim connect the office seamlessly to the home’s grand hallways.
The Dome & Ceiling Art
The crowning jewel of the study is the illuminated, recessed circular dome. We collaborated with master artisans to hand-paint a custom fresco featuring classic Old-World motifs, flanked by ornate, multi-tiered plaster trim. Suspending from the center is an exquisite, tiered crystal and brass chandelier that casts a warm, historic glow across the room.
The Hearth & Desk
No classic study is complete without a fireplace. We designed a monumental, custom-carved limestone hearth that acts as the room’s anchoring focal point. Whether viewed from the hand-carved executive desk or the plush leather armchairs, the fireplace offers a cozy, contemplative atmosphere. Adjacent built-ins host an integrated bar and bookshelf suite, blending utility with luxury.
A Natural Connection
While the interior feels wonderfully secluded, we incorporated expansive, dark-framed French doors that open directly onto the estate’s courtyards and vineyard vistas. This natural light balances the deep, moody palette, allowing the beauty of the vineyard to become an active part of the daily work experience.
