The Inland Oasis in Florida: a drum-shaped rotunda with a circular roof trellis among palms in warm late-day light

The Inland Oasis

Located inland in Florida, this single-level residence creates its own private water oasis as an alternative to a traditional beachfront property. The architecture is defined by a collection of striking drum-shaped buildings arranged across the site, designed specifically to encourage relaxed, aimless meandering. Some of these distinct circular volumes are linked by covered walkways featuring exposed wooden trellises, while others stand as independent pavilions separated by lush tropical landscaping and various interconnected swimming pools.

To elevate the outdoor experience, the flat rooflines function as accessible decks, providing dedicated spaces for stargazing and gathering around a gas firepit. On the ground level, the interior living spaces seamlessly embrace the surrounding aquatic environment through expansive, curved floor-to-ceiling glass walls. Inside, the minimalist design—anchored by a sleek metal fireplace and textured, neutral furnishings—allows the vivid blues of the adjacent pools and the vibrant greens of the palms to serve as the primary visual focus.

As evening falls, the rotunda structures are illuminated by integrated architectural lighting along the circular roofline trellises, casting a warm glow across the water and smooth exterior surfaces. This precise illumination highlights the sweeping curves of the buildings and creates a serene, resort-like atmosphere within the private compound, ensuring the home feels like a true oasis at any hour.
